07 numbers are widely recognised as mobile numbers. Whilst this is the main use for 07 numbers there is another area 07 numbers are used and that is what is known as Personal Numbers and Virtual Numbers.
Personal Numbers
A personal number is a number, which begins with 070. They differ from standard mobile numbers (that begin with 07) in as much as they allow one number to be used for dialing several other numbers – as though a receptionist is trying to call several destinations in rotation. Because the caller is charged at a higher rate than a standard mobile there is no cost incurred to the owner of the number other than a rental for the number itself.
Virtual Numbers
Virtual Numbers are Personal Numbers, which are linked to Internet or media services. For example, an owner of a mobile number may not wish for that number to be displayed on media advertising. Instead of displaying their current telephone details the advertiser could use a personal number. The number is used on a temporary basis to enable a caller to contact them without the caller ever getting to know the advertisers mobile or fixed line number. Because they are used on a temporary basis and the number is recycled after a period of hibernation there is no charge to the user of the number
