Lines

Don't be kept in the dark about your communications

VOIP, IP, SIP, ISDN

VOIP, IP, SIP, ISDN, Cloud, Hosted Telephony and so on. So what do they mean?

We’ll keep it light-weight but if you want us to get in to the nitty-gritty we’d love to do so. Just ask!

In the mean time…

  • CLOUD = Computers Located Over Universal Datacentres (it’s not really - we just made it up but it does sum cloud computing quite well we think)

  • VOIP = Voice over Internet Protocol

  • IP = Internet Protocol

  • SIP = Session Initiated Protocol

  • ISDN = Integrated Services Digital Network

  • Hosted Telephony - Telephone systems hosted in data centres

  • Data Centre - Secure buildings with dedicated internet access enabling many large computers to provide various services to businesses, government and individuals.

Analogue

The analogue telephone line provides us with a range of uses from normal speech through to fax services, broadband and alarm monitoring services. You can add more lines (known as multi-lines) on to a telephone system when you need more than one telephone conversation outside of your office environment.

ISDN2e

Digital lines have become standard in busy offices.

ISDN30e

For the larger office.

SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)

SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) main functions concerns the starting process of your data transmission. Whether you are making calls or transferring media, it all starts from your SIP.

With the introduction of new technology people are unsure which line they may require. If you’re confused then let us help you, all we need to know is what your requirements are and we’ll advise you on which line is best for you.

There are two types of telephone lines; analogue and digital. Analogue can be provided as a single line with a single number or as a multi-line which has as many lines as you would like with one single number. Multi-lines are used mainly for telephone systems in business but increasingly these are being replaced by digital lines known as ISDN lines.

ISDN lines use technology that provides efficiency as well as clarity. There are two main types; ISDN2e and ISDN30e.
